New Haven, CT, September 21, 2016 – The New Haven Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. is currently accepting applications for their Delta Academy and GEMS mentoring program for the 2016-2017 session.

The Dr. Betty Shabazz Delta Academy program – themed Catching the Dreams of Tomorrow, Preparing Young Women for the 21st Century – is for girls ages 11 – 14. The goals of the program are to enrich and enhance the education that students receive in schools by augmenting scholarship in math, science and technology and also providing learning opportunities for public service.

The Delta GEMS (Growing and Empowering Myself Successfully) program, for young women ages 15 – 18, builds upon learning from Delta Academy with additional goals including instilling the need to excel academically; providing tools that will help girls enhance their skills to achieve high levels of academic success; and assist in goal setting and planning for high school, college and beyond.

Monthly sessions are held every second Saturday morning. There is no cost to participate in either program, but interested candidates must complete an application which can be found online at www.newhavenalumnae.org and attend orientation on Friday, October 21, 2016 at 6 pm at Hill Regional Career High School, 140 Legion Avenue, New Haven.
